Col Umar seeks help from international community

Former military governor of Kaduna State, Col. Abubakar Dangiwa Umar (retd), has appealed to the International Community, particularly the International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC, to assist in the negotiations needed to effect the release of kidnapped victims of Kaduna train attack.

His call came as relatives and families of the abducted passengers wrote the office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, demanding the release of their loved ones.

This is even as spokesperson of families of the kidnapped passengers, Dr. Abdullahi Jimoh, told Vanguard, yesterday, that the Federal Government was yet to reach out to them on the level of discussion with the terrorists over the release of the captives.

Umar, who is also the Chairman of a pressure group, Movement for Unity and Progress, who made the call in a statement, yesterday, said he was disturbed by the pictures of the victims displayed by their captors on social media, on Tuesday.

He said:  “The pictures, to say the least, are most disturbing, particularly as they show exhausted and frightened women and children under the most harrowing conditions.

“I appeal to the Federal government to do more to secure the immediate release of these innocent victims.
